Have you ever looked at a photo and suddenly strong emotions welled up?

I never knew this was really possible; I'd see that happen in the movies, but I never really experienced it until today.

I guess the picture has to be something that touches you or something that you care about a lot. I looked at a photo of two people, of two completely different cultures, smiling fondly at each other. One, who was of the Caucasian race, was trying on a kimono and a Japanese person was helping her.

As lame as it sounds, I was touched. I've always believed that it is a great fortune to experience other dissimilar cultures and interact with people of another race. It is important to be able to communicate with people of different backgrounds. I am thankful that the world in which we live in is diverse. I am thankful that the school I go to is diverse. It is my dream to travel the world when I grow up, and experience the different everyday lifestyles and customs.

Usually, I'm just a level-headed person. However, this is one of the few subjects that I really care about. I myself have grown up with a diverse cultural background, as my parents are African-American and Thai. As a result of being exposed to different cultures, I have developed a strong belief in diversity.

The photograph with the people wearing kimonos was just another demonstration of how we can all be connected despite the cultural differences. By traveling to different countries and forming bonds with other people, this connection can and will last.
